The Gimli Film Festival, in partnership with Manitoba Music, is presenting Music at the Movies, a performance opportunity for five emerging Manitoba bands or solo artists to showcase their talent prior to each evening’s Beach Movie. This event is free and open to the public.

WEDNESDAY JULY 20 – The Magnificent Sevens
Combining traditional bluegrass with a sense of modern mayhem, The Mag 7s give a new appreciation for folk music in the digital age. The five piece band maintains a 100% acoustic live show with no compromise. Heavily entrenched in D.I.Y. culture, The Mag 7’s respect music as an artform and not just an “industry”. No egos, no $40.00 hair cuts, just a group of people who love music, and aim to play it from the heart.
THURSDAY JULY 21 – JP Hoe
Think “tongue-in-cheek torch songs” and you have one place of departure with this Canadian based songwriter. JP writes tirelessly in all styles, charming audiences with sharp lyrics, a smooth voice and a casual demeanor. Humour, simple phrases, and bold ideas are all part of his trade.
FRIDAY JULY 22 – Mise en Scene
Mise en Scene is a collaboration between artists, poets and musicians from different musical genres and backgrounds which produce an exciting sound. Started in Gimli during the summer of 2009 by Stephanie Blondal Johnson and Jodi Dunlop, they were later joined by Kena Olson and Marco Fiore. Their debut EP Late Night Triple Feature is frequently played on CBC Radio One and college radio. Mise en Scene is delighted to be performing at the Gimli Film Festival.
SATURDAY JULY 23 – Trio Bembe

SUNDAY JULY 24 – Katie Murphy
With her sultry, charming voice and engaging, passionate performances, Katie Murphy is quickly becoming one of Manitoba’s most captivating acts. Murphy recently released her latest disc Exes & Uh-Ohs. SUNDAY JULY 24 – 2:30 PM – Eeper Weeper
Eeper Weeper is a group of seven multi-instrumentalists from Winnipeg. The band is made up of Charlotte Coudiere, Adam Fuhr, Alex Kohut, Levi Kwade, Keegan Steele, Katherine Walker-Jones and Kieran West. They play a mix of folk, rock, alternative, and indie music. Eeper Weeper was recently crowned “Manitoba’s Top High School Band” by the CBC.
