Call for Board Member: Treasurer

The Gimli International Film Festival (GIFF) is celebrating its 26th anniversary, marking a legacy of bringing people together on the shores of Lake Winnipeg to experience film, storytelling, and community. As Manitoba’s premier film festival, GIFF showcases bold and diverse cinema while creating a vibrant cultural gathering rooted in connection, creativity, and place.

We are seeking a volunteer Treasurer to join our Board of Directors.

About the Role

GIFF is governed by a non-working Board, focused on strategic planning, oversight, and long-term sustainability. Board members help guide the organization’s future, strengthen community connections, and support the continued growth of the festival.

Commitment: Monthly meetings (8-10 months of the year) and Finance Committee meetings as required. A board term is three years with a maximum of two consecutive terms.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone with financial leadership or accounting expertise who is passionate about supporting arts and culture in Manitoba.

As the Board’s financial lead, the Treasurer works closely with the Executive Director and external accountant to provide financial oversight, guidance, and strategic advice.

We’re seeking someone with experience in many of the following areas:

  • Chairing or serving on a Finance Committee

  • Reviewing and interpreting financial statements

  • Developing, reviewing, and monitoring organizational budgets

  • Monitoring financial performance and organizational risk

  • Working with external accountants during the annual review or audit process

  • Establishing or maintaining sound financial policies and controls

  • Advising boards or senior leaders on financial matters and long-term sustainability

CPA designation or equivalent financial leadership experience is considered an asset.

Previous board experience is an asset but is not required.

Why Join GIFF?

This is an opportunity to help guide one of Manitoba’s most distinctive cultural organizations as it enters its next chapter. You’ll work alongside an engaged Board and Executive Director committed to strengthening GIFF’s financial sustainability while continuing to build an exceptional festival experience for audiences, filmmakers, volunteers, sponsors, and the Gimli community.
